David has over 20 years’ professional experience in legal services, audit, taxation, treasury management, project management, governance, risk management, and controls and compliance. He has gained experience working in professional firms (HH&M, EY and KPMG) and in the FMCG industry (BAT and EABL) in various roles including Tax Manager, Group Treasury and Tax Manager, Strategic Tax and Treasury Projects Manager, Head of Controls Assurance, and Head of Controls, Compliance and Ethics.

David is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Certified Public Accountant and an MBA graduate from the University of Manchester, Manchester Business School.

Notable Assignments Undertaken:

• Developed a Business Partner Lifecycle Management framework which was designed to transform the manner in which companies manage their vendor/business partner relationships and has delivered significant savings in operational and overhead costs.
• Set up of a Controls Assurance Team (‘CAT’) and leading several value-adding assignments. CAT’s mandate was to undertake controls and compliance reviews across the East Africa and to recommend actions to improve the control environment.
• As Head of Controls, Compliance and Ethics, overseeing the implementation of the Controls Assurance and Risk Management (CARM) framework, leading the Risk Management agenda, and overseeing the Breach Management process.
• Project Manager for a capital structure review of a listed company and its core subsidiaries and developing a long-term funding plan (in conjunction with the entity’s appointed corporate & investment banking advisors).
• Led the tax and treasury integration of a newly acquired subsidiary into the operations of its listed parent company.
• Oversaw a corporate restructuring exercise involving 3 subsidiaries of a listed company that resulted in realization of millions in cash tax savings and recovery of tax losses and overpayments.
• Project Manager on the issuance of Commercial Paper (Kshs 5 billion) and the Medium-Term Note (MTN) programme of a listed entity.
• Led the review and redrafting of a listed entity’s Transfer Pricing policies and redrafting of intercompany agreements in conjunction with Global Tax and Legal teams drawn from its parent company/majority shareholder.
• Successful defence and mitigation against revenue authority demands and audits, resulting in successful tax appeals amounting to Kshs 1.8 billion.
